I'm in the market for a web cam for my Dell Notebook, and the LifeCam HD-6000 appears to be a good deal. Does it come with a microphone, or is that sold separately?

The quality has really improved from previous models. I was using a HP webcam until recently. My webcam on my ASUS netbook is much better than the HP external!
Posted by: don wilde | April 16, 2010 at 09:55 AM
@Dale - the LifeCam HD-6000 has a built in microphone. You can hear it in action in the video above.
@Don - Yes, today's webcams are getting better fast!

Hi Scott - From this side of the fence, that's a great webcam. The sound and video quality on your Click Millionaires Show broadcast this week came out great. Solid performance from a sleek an affordable webcam.

Looks realy good mic sounds ok too better then Logitech 9000 pro in my opinion good value for the price at the cheapest onlineshop it costs 32€.
I watched a few reviews about webcams lately since I'm upgrading from a laptop (it had built in webcam so i didnt have to buy one) to a pc.
Happy Streaming = )

I have only used the on-board cam on my HP laptop. I keep thinking that there are better cams, but the (cheap) one's I've tried are weaker than my built-in cam. Your review has convinced me to look to a higher price range. I tutor online and it's probably worth the splurge. Might even take advantage of the wide screen to make demos easier.
Thanks for the review, Scott!

I watched Scott use one the Microsoft LifeCam HD-6000 Webcam in his streaming video production and the video and audio was fantastic! I would be honored to win one of these!

The Microsoft LifeCam HD-6000 sounds like an excellent webcam. I've never used a webcam from Microsoft, but this one might be a real winner.

I think that Scott look better with this camera, the colors are more vivid. The sound quality seem to improved. I also like the portable bag, I usually take my laptop to college and other places, so for me will be a better to carry it and take it everywhere.
Thank You and God Bless You

This is a definite improvement over the previous web cams you have used. The Microsoft LifeCam HD-6000 has two functions that interest me:
1. The Wide Sreen
2. The panning/rotating function.
Both of these functions can give the viewer more information in the interviews/seminars.
Great product review. Another Click Millionaire benefit!

I love the fact that the camera is so small, and it has high-definition. I have been trying to do video of myself (as part of my new year's resolution), but haven't been pleased with the webcam that came with my laptop.
I'm also trying to integrate video marketing for my clients, so this will help me get some more practice with scripts and Camtasia.
Thanks for the opportunity Scott!

Scott,
Comb that right eyebrow back into submission! It has taken on a life of it's own.
Nice pitch, I might buy one of those bad boys.

This appears to be a winning product from Microsoft. The things I like about it are the wide screen, rotating camera, ease of use and the travel bag. Thanks for a great review, I'll probably get one once they are available!

Thanks for the review Scott. This camera would be highly useful for making all sorts of promotional videos with professional quality. Looks like a step up from my 2004 d-link webcam HAHA! Most of the old cams don't have that swiveling capability. Very nice!
Posted by: Ryan | April 21, 2010 at 09:26 AM
Nice review. Seems like a high quality cam- image was sharp and clear. Definitely want to pick one up if I don't win yours!
Posted by: Brock | April 21, 2010 at 09:33 AM
Please don't laugh at my untechnical "stupid" comment, but a camera like this would be a real treasure for someone like me who rescues animals and does everything possible to try to find them good homes. I had recently been thinking about what a great idea it would be to put a webcam in my kitties for adoption room so I could get some great video shots of them doing their own thing and upload it to the internet. I think it would really boost my kitty adoptions. With lots of little mouths to feed, I'm always on a tight budget and won't be able to afford to buy one, so I'm hoping to win this one because I think a camera like this would be really helpful for someone who does what I do.

I have been looking for a good webcam so that I can talk to my family that is back in Maryland (I live in Arizona). I have been waiting because I didn't want to get one that was too grainy or too small. This one seems perfect! It is very clear and it has a fairly wide angle. I also like that it can swivel so if my niece or nephew runs off, my sister can still show me what they are up to.:)

Hello Scott,
As always you give out great information. I've been thinking about adding video posts to my blog and this would come in very handy.

Dear Scott,
Excellent recommendation for the LifeCam HD-6000--I'm glad to know it's so affordable and easy to use. Thanks for letting us know about it.
All best, Bob

Scott,
The thing I enjoyed most about your video presentation this time was the fact that the sound and visual were a 100% improvement over your previous videos, a big distraction for me previously. It's a great testimony to how good this webcam is. I look forward to the higher quality videos it will enable you to send us from now on.
Posted by: Jim Vickers | April 21, 2010 at 10:33 AM
Great video on the webcam! I have been wrestling with the fact that I need more than the built-in cam on my computer and not wanting to spend a lot of money for HD Quality. Your video review couldn’t have come at a better time. Isn’t it great how things can show up in life if you’re open to the possibilities? Now I’m putting off the purchase of the Kodak Zi8 which would have been at least $200 by the time taxes and shipping was paid. Oh, and I would still need some kind of tripod to use it. Anyway thanks again, truly timely information.

I agree 3 thumbs up! Some day I too will have an assistant to mail things off for me. Thanks
Posted by: Jerry Lafferty | April 21, 2010 at 11:15 AM
Looks great, better quality than I assumed you would get from a webcam - have never used one before, but would consider it now... thanks
Posted by: Dave Gerrish | April 21, 2010 at 01:20 PM
Hi Scott. Sound and image really seems to have improved from your previous videos. If we compare the quality vs price, the final result is very good! Very affordable and, with all those features you've mentioned, it seems to be a "must-have" camera for all of us.

Thanks for the review, Scott. I am curious as to the differences between the 5000 and the 6000?
Posted by: Ron Sheveland | April 21, 2010 at 05:42 PM
Wow, this is a great looking web cam. I figured there were ones out there that were better than the one that came with my laptop. I like this one and it isn't overly expensive. Thanks for doing the review.

Microsoft's new LifeCam HD-6000 is definitely the best web cam I have ever seen and heard Scott use in his videos and I heartily recommend it!

Yes Scott I can see you very clearly! The Lifecam HD-6000 looks very smart;it's tiny, portable and I could clip it onto my hair band; I'd love one!

Appreciate your review. The video resolution and sound quality of the Lifecam is fantastic! I don't own a webcam so this opportunity to win one is perfect. Thanks.

Scott,
Once again a great show on Tuesday using this fantastic camera. I have never seen a web cam as good as the Microsoft LifeCam HD-6000 Webcam. And the footprint looks so small it might even work on a netbook! Thanks again for a great show!

Hi, Scott,

Microsoft LifeCam HD-6000 Webcam
I'm looking at this webcam. Can't figure out if it has a built in mic. It looks like Scott has a mic headset around his neck on the video. Are you using that mic or is there one on the webcam.
Thanks
Posted by: Larry | May 25, 2010 at 06:47 AM
Thanks for the demo - it looks like a great camera! If that's the real audio from the mike, it might be a winner!
Posted by: Jeff | May 25, 2010 at 08:46 AM
Hi all,
Yes, that is the actual audio from the camera you are hearing. The sound is great.
(I am wearing an extra mic to simultaneously record for my Click Millionaires podcast show, too.)
In further use I have noticed that the auto-focus can be a bit slow, fyi. That's my only complaint with this excellent webcam, though.
Thanks everybody for visiting!

So the video quality looks quite good but you really did not tell me anything useful. How about some details about what the software is, and is not, capable of? How about describing what common video-chat apps like Messenger and Skype require for 720p support? What are the CPU and connection speed requirements for live 720p connections? Are there reduced-quality resolutions available? I want to know these things before I plunk down my $$ for it.
Thanks.
Posted by: Dave Nelson | May 27, 2010 at 08:37 AM
Hi Dave,
Those are all valid questions but I'm not as interested in the fancy stuff as you are.
I'm sure that there are plenty of more technical and "early adopter" blogs and review sites that could help you with these details.
As I stated in the video, if it works easily, quickly, and reliably to help grow my business, I'm sold.
Thanks for visiting.

I am an independent DJ who has relied on word of mouth because I am not savvy on promoting myself on the internet but your program and information have opened my eyes to possibilities I never imagined, I am now a fan and will keep up on your podcast to help me be a better business professional.

Can't wait to give this a try. Will be picking one up tomorrow at Best Buy for $39 and change. Hope it is as easy to use as you make it out to be. Primary use will be for Skype but will also be trying Movie Maker to record my father-in-law who is in the later stages of life fighting a Pulminary disease.

Derrick - Thanks very much. Glad to help.
D - I hope the camera and your father-in-law are both doing well.
Fredd - Yes, it definitely works on PCs. That's how I use this webcam myself.
