Scott Fox’s Answer:
Although in the 1990’s it was very expensive to start an e-business, the continuing advancement of technology has made it cheaper to build an e-commerce web site every year since. In fact, today anyone with online access can start a web business for less than you might spend on dinner! This may sound like hype but it is 100% true.
As detailed in Chapter 2 of Internet Riches you can start a business web site for only $25 these days! Key costs of any e-business site include:
- registration of a domain name
- web site hosting
- web site design
- email collection, management and distribution tools
- e-commerce shopping cart software
- credit card processing services
While this list is fairly basic, I also know that it can be fairly intimidating to anyone new to e-business.
My advice to the newbie: Don’t be scared!
Believe it or not, today you can get all of these services and many more as part of just a few package deals that will cost you less than $25/month if you know the right providers to use.
Visit www.ScottFox.com for details on my latest free recommendations for these vendors anytime. The low cost of entry today into the world of e-business means that there is less risk in starting your own business than ever before.
Don’t let lack of funds be your excuse for not taking hold of your life and becoming a small business owner, too.

Thanks for an awesome book. I found it to be very helpful and beneficial. The approach I am taking is going after a niche market. I am providing helpful content with ads and products being offered to support the site. My site has been running for about 2 weeks and has been getting some heavy traffic which is great. However, the ad revenue is not reflecting such. How long before this will catch up? I know there is no definitive formula but it would be interesting to know from the sites you interviewed... how long did it take before they became profitable?
Thanks.
